How to use this IO list

  1. Select the FlexVander pump program used on the installation.
  2. Wire the controller supply first.
  3. Wire the digital output supply before using any pump-control outputs.
  4. Wire the pump-control outputs and operating-status feedback for each installed pump.
  5. Add only the optional FlexVander features that are part of the delivered solution.
  6. Use the interface overview and terminal reference for the relevant LX4 hardware section.
  7. Check the hardware jumper reference before commissioning.

Required basic pump wiring

For basic FlexVander operation, connect the LX4 controller supply, digital output supply, pump-control outputs, and operating-status feedback for each installed pump. Select the wiring table that matches the FlexVander program used on the installation.

Controller supply and output supply

Supply Terminals Use Note
Controller supply 28/29 SUPP, 27 PGND 8-36 VDC supply to the LX4 controller. The two SUPP terminals are tied together internally.
Digital output supply 30 DOUT SUPP, 39 DOUT GND External DC supply for the digital outputs. DOUT SUPP is not internally connected to SUPP.

The LX4 digital outputs are protected high-side DC outputs. They are not potential-free relay contacts. Use an interface relay when the pump control circuit needs a potential-free contact set.

Program 1 basic wiring: one or two pressure pumps

Program 1 controls one or two pressure pumps without a submersible pump. Required for basic operation: start/stop outputs and operating-status feedback for each installed pressure pump.

Digital outputs

The digital outputs send the FlexVander start and stop signals. FVADOUTT# sets the start-output pulse/hold time. The output is not a potential-free relay contact; install an interface relay when the pump panel requires a relay contact.

Output Function LX4 terminal Condition
Output 1 Start pressure pump 1 31 DOUT1 Required
Output 2 Start pressure pump 2 32 DOUT2 If pressure pump 2 is installed
Output 3 Stop pressure pump 1 33 DOUT3 Required
Output 4 Stop pressure pump 2 34 DOUT4 If pressure pump 2 is installed

Stop output behaviour can be changed with DWCONTACT# when the installation requires NC behaviour. On LX4, this changes the FlexVander output behaviour; it does not turn the high-side output into a potential-free NC contact.

Required operating-status feedback

FlexVander expects a feedback signal from each pump that has been started. If feedback is not detected after start, FlexVander stops the pump because it would otherwise run unmonitored. During operation, the same feedback input is used to detect that the pump has stopped.

Connect each pump-running feedback signal to the listed LX4 input with SGND as reference. In the default setup, use a PNP/normal positive input signal. Set the relevant DIN jumper to Position S only when the installed signal is S0/NPN/contact style.

Input Pump LX4 terminals Signal Condition
Input 2 Pressure pump 1 42 DIN2, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; DIN2 Position N. Required
Input 3 Pressure pump 2 43 DIN3, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; DIN3 Position N. If pressure pump 2 is installed

Program 2 basic wiring: submersible pump and one or two pressure pumps

Program 2 controls one submersible pump and one or two pressure pumps. Required for basic operation: start/stop outputs and operating-status feedback for each installed pump.

Digital outputs

The digital outputs send the FlexVander start and stop signals. FVADOUTT# sets the start-output pulse/hold time. The output is not a potential-free relay contact; install an interface relay when the pump panel requires a relay contact.

Output Function LX4 terminal Condition
Output 1 Start submersible pump 31 DOUT1 Required
Output 2 Start pressure pump 1 32 DOUT2 Required
Output 3 Start pressure pump 2 33 DOUT3 If pressure pump 2 is installed
Output 4 Stop all pumps 34 DOUT4 Required

Input 1 Submersible pump 41 DIN1, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; DIN1 Position N. Required
Input 2 Pressure pump 1 42 DIN2, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; DIN2 Position N. Required
Input 3 Pressure pump 2 43 DIN3, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; DIN3 Position N. If pressure pump 2 is installed

Stop-circuit note: when a stop circuit must not depend directly on the LX4 high-side output, use a normally-open FlexVander output to drive an interposing relay and use the relay's NC contact in the stop circuit.

Optional standard features

Local push buttons

Local push buttons are optional physical inputs for local pump operation at the installation. Use FVALOCIN to select the digital input used for the local push button.

FVALOCIN 0 disables local push-button operation. Values 1 to 8 select LX4 digital inputs 1 to 8.

Use only an input that is available on the installed LX4 pro and not already used for pump feedback or another installed function.

For DIN1 to DIN4, the default setting is Position N for PNP/normal positive input. Use Position S only when the local button signal is wired as S0/NPN/contact style.

FVALOCIN value LX4 input Terminals Signal / jumper Note
1 Digital input 1 41 DIN1, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; Position N default. Do not use if input 1 is used for Program 2 submersible pump feedback.
2 Digital input 2 42 DIN2, 40 or 49 SGND PNP / normal positive input; Position N default. Do not use if input 2 is used for pressure pump 1 feedback.

Pressure control

FlexVander LX4 pro can be installed with or without pressure control. If pressure control is used, connect the pressure transmitter to the relevant analog input and configure Pressure Control Settings.

AIN1 is used for pressure line 1, and AIN2 is used for pressure line 2 when separate pressure transmitters are part of the solution. LX4 analog inputs are voltage inputs by default; install the relevant analog-input jumper when the transmitter signal is a current signal.

Input Pressure line Terminals Signal
Analog input 1 Pressure line 1 22 AIN1, 26 AGND 0-10 VDC or 0-20 mA, depending on jumper setting.
Analog input 2 Pressure line 2 23 AIN2, 26 AGND 0-10 VDC or 0-20 mA, depending on jumper setting.

Before commissioning, verify the transmitter nameplate/datasheet and the selected input setup. Use AIN2 only when separate pressure line 2 measurement is part of the solution.

Controller supply

The controller must be supplied with 8-36 VDC from an external DC power source. Positive power is applied to SUPP and ground to PGND. The two SUPP terminals are tied together internally.

Pin Name Use
27 PGND Power ground, negative connection.
28 SUPP Power supply, positive connection.
29 SUPP Power supply, positive connection.

PGND should only be connected to the external DC power source. SGND, DOUT GND, and AGND are filtered from the supply ground and tied together internally.

If a chassis or system ground is connected to SGND or AGND, wrong polarity on the supply lines can damage the internal ground connection.

Digital outputs

The eight digital outputs are protected high-side switches. The digital output control circuit is supplied from DOUT SUPP and DOUT GND. DOUT SUPP is not internally connected to SUPP and needs an external DC power source.

Pin Name Use
