NaviGuard overview

NaviGuard gives organisations responsible for Aids to Navigation (AtoN) one place in Emiko to monitor supported instruments across remote sites. Authorised users can review current condition, alarms, power data, and available position data without travelling to each installation.

Remote site connection

Each NaviGuard controller connects the supported instruments at one remote installation to Emiko through the internet. The controller can be installed inside a suitable lantern installation or in an external enclosure.

Monitoring paths

A lantern can be monitored through a supported serial data interface or through PowerMonitor current sensing. PowerMonitor extends basic operating supervision to lanterns that do not provide supported serial communication.

Model-dependent capability: Available information and controls depend on the connected instrument model and the installed NaviGuard software.

Remote AtoN sites can be difficult and time-consuming to visit. Current information in Emiko helps the responsible organisation identify where attention is needed before sending a service team.

Responsibility across many sites

AtoN operators can be responsible for instruments at harbour entrances, along exposed coastlines, and on remote islands across a large region or national network. NaviGuard provides one operational overview across the supported sites.

Better service planning

Operators can review available status and measurements in Emiko, identify the affected site, and prioritise the right response before travelling. This is especially useful when access is difficult or an installation relies on batteries, solar charging, or a UPS.

One view across remote sites

Emiko collects supported NaviGuard installations in one monitoring overview. Authorised users can log in from a computer or mobile device with internet access and review many remote sites, while clear indicators help them find the installations that need attention.

Emiko shows alarms from monitored NaviGuard installations and identifies the site that requires investigation.

What NaviGuard can monitor

NaviGuard brings supported information from connected AtoN instruments into one site context. What is available depends on the installed instrument, model integration, and controller software.

Supported configuration

Available settings depend on the connected model and released integration.

A control is shown only when the installed model supports both the change and confirmation that it was applied. Supported settings can include Nominal Range, Flash Character, and Day/Night Switching.

How instruments connect

Serial instrument communication

A supported AtoN instrument can connect through serial Modbus RTU when the released model integration provides it. Available measurements and controls differ between models. Use the Maritime Signalling model reference to identify the configured communication model.

PowerMonitor current sensing

For a lantern without a supported serial interface, PowerMonitor detects whether the lantern draws current during expected operation. This provides operating evidence and supports configured current-based alarms, but it does not provide the lantern's internal status, detailed measurements, or settings.

Supported AtoN and site instruments

NaviGuard provides one monitoring structure for supported navigation and marker lights, sector and leading lights, Racon and radar beacons, PowerMonitor, PowerGuard, and other released AtoN integrations. The available data, alarms, settings, and commands depend on the connected instrument and released software.
